Prince William once revealed an unusual tidbit about his sleeping arrangements with his wife, Kate Middleton, in an unexpected bedroom confession.
The Prince and Princess of Wales have been married for 13 years, having celebrated their anniversary in April, and currently reside at Adelaide Cottage near Windsor Castle alongside their three children, Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, seven.
As we all know, the couple is quite discreet when it comes to discussing intimate details with royal admirers, but William has already opened up a little more about how he and Kate sleep together.
This claimed confession comes after the heir to the throne reportedly stopped to pet a well-wisher’s dog while visiting Duchy College in Cornwall.
Louise Harland told Hits Radio Cornwall that the 42-year-old patted her dog, Jacks, and confessed to her that his family dog, Orla, a cocker spaniel, frequently sleeps on the bed with him and Kate.
“[William] said that his little dog sleeps on the bed with them at night, with him and Kate,” Louise told me.
“[He] was madly in love with my tiny dog. He inquired what breed he was, and he’d never met one of those breeds before; he’s a Cockerjack, so he’s a little bit of a rare combo.”
According to the Sleep Foundation, sleeping with a pet can bring a range of benefits, including comfort and security, as service dogs can provide emotional support to persons suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) during nightmares.
These canines are trained to recognize physical indicators that suggest a person is having a nightmare, allowing them to interrupt the nightmare by waking their owner up.
Sleeping with your dog has also been shown to help relieve symptoms of mental health disorders, regulate emotions, and reduce anxiety and loneliness.
Cuddling up with your dog can help lower blood pressure and pulse rate while also potentially increasing your immunity.
However, there are some disadvantages to nodding asleep with your dog, as Sleep Medicine Physician Dr Dustin Cotliar warns: “It may be tempting to snuggle up with your dog at night, but sleeping in bed can definitely disrupt one’s sleep.”
“They might move around during the night, disturb your body’s ability to regulate its temperature or exacerbate allergies.”
The Sleep Foundation highlights not only sleep disturbances and allergy concerns, but also germ exposure and territorial behavior.
“It’s often best to get your dog used to sleeping in a bed next to you in your bedroom,” the veterinarian says.
