Childless Woman Returns from a Business Trip a Day Early and Finds a Baby in Her House – Story of the Day

When Alicia came home early from a business trip, she never expected to find a baby lying next to her husband in their bed. His explanation didn’t make any sense at the time, but she was too exhausted to press him. Only hours later, when she woke up, did the shocking truth begin to unfold.

After spending several weeks working in New York, Alicia was relieved to finally be home in Miami. She’d wrapped things up earlier than planned and caught a late flight, wanting nothing more than to surprise Luke and rest in her own bed.

She tiptoed through the house quietly, slipped off her jacket, and crept into the bedroom. The soft glow of moonlight was enough to see her husband sleeping peacefully. Alicia quickly changed into pajamas, careful not to wake him—until she saw something that stopped her cold.

A baby. Curled up on her side of the bed, safely nestled beside a pillow to keep it from rolling. But she and Luke didn’t have kids. And as far as she knew, there were no babies in his family either—he’d grown up in an orphanage.

Alicia’s heart pounded. She hurried to Luke’s side and shook him awake. “Luke! Wake up!” she whispered urgently.

Half-asleep and confused, Luke blinked at her. “Alicia? What are you doing here?”

“Kitchen. Now,” she whispered sharply and stormed out of the room.

Still groggy, Luke followed. “You’re back early.”

“Forget that. Who is that baby, Luke?”

“I don’t know,” he muttered through a yawn. “Someone left him on the doorstep a few days ago, and I’ve been taking care of him.”

“What? That’s crazy. We need to call the police!”

“I meant to. I just… kept forgetting while handling everything. I’m exhausted, Alicia. Can we talk about this in the morning?”

“No, Luke, we need to talk now!”

“Please, not so loud. You’ll wake the baby,” he whispered, already heading back to bed.

Frustrated but drained, Alicia gave in and followed him. She lay down beside the child, and despite everything, sleep came quickly.

At seven the next morning, Alicia was woken by hushed voices from the living room. She noticed Luke and the baby were gone and crept quietly to the doorway.

“Luke, when are you going to tell her?” a woman’s voice asked. “This can’t keep going.”

“Keep it down. I don’t know how,” Luke replied. “I’ll tell her once the DNA results are back.”

Alicia’s heart dropped. DNA results? Was Luke hiding a child from her? Did this woman have his baby?

She stepped into the room, ready to confront them. “What’s going on? I heard everything. Is she the baby’s mother? Luke, did you cheat on me?”

The woman blinked, then burst out laughing. “Baby mama?”

Luke quickly stepped forward. “No! Alicia, no. This is my sister—Linda.”

Alicia stared at him, stunned. “What?”

“Linda and I met two weeks ago by chance. Look, baby. She looks just like me. We met at the supermarket and were shocked by our resemblance to one another. We started talking and realized we were both orphans. Now we’re waiting for the results of a DNA test to confirm it. But we’re pretty sure because our childhood experiences were similar. I believe I remember playing with her at the orphanage, but it’s a blurry memory,” Luke explained the shocking story.

“That’s crazy,” Alicia whispered, looking at the woman. But Luke was right. The woman looked awfully like him. If identical twins of different genders were possible, they would be the perfect example.

Luke continued. “We’ve gotten pretty close since then, and she had an emergency last night. She asked me to watch her baby, Tony. I was too tired to explain earlier, but there it is.”

Alicia calmed down and invited Linda inside to hear the woman’s side of the story. It was pretty remarkable. Luke also begged forgiveness for not telling her sooner, but he didn’t want to ruin her important business trip with this complicated news.

“Anyway, the results are supposed to come out in a few days, and then, we’ll see. You can see them along with my husband and corroborate that we’re not lying. But I really hope it’s true because not having any extended family is the worst,” Linda commented after they talked for a while.

Alicia was glad to hear that Linda had a husband. It made the story much more plausible, and she forgave Luke for the lie pretty quickly because Tony was super cute.

A few days later, the results confirmed they were siblings, and they decided to spend more time together. Alicia was glad that Luke had a nephew to dote on, and she always thought that family mattered more than anything in the world.

What can we learn from this story?

– Don’t lie to your spouse. Things could’ve gone south for Luke if Alicia didn’t patiently wait for an explanation. So it’s best not to lie to your partner.
– Family is the most crucial part of life. Cherish your family members because tons of people wish they had them.
