According to a conflict resolution expert, Prince Harry appears to have lost control of the ongoing tensions with the Royal Family.
The Duke of Sussex has been at odds with his relatives since stepping down from royal duties and relocating to the United States in 2020.
The strained relationship returned to the spotlight following Harry’s recent interview with the BBC. During the emotional segment, after he lost his High Court appeal over reduced security measures in the UK, Harry acknowledged that certain members of the royal family may never forgive him, though he expressed a desire to reconcile.
However, conflict coach and family dynamics mediator Julie Cobalt told Hello! magazine that Harry may have undermined his chances of healing the relationship due to the public nature of his remarks.
“Criticizing your family in a public forum—especially in something as permanent as a memoir—often leads to defensiveness and deeper rifts,” Cobalt explained. “It also takes away your ability to control how your words are received.”
She emphasized that if Harry’s intention was truly reconciliation, a more effective path would have been through private dialogue with a mediator or coach. “Rebuilding relationships depends on open, honest communication—not public storytelling,” she added.
Cobalt also noted that going public can muddy the waters.
“When you share personal issues with the public, you increase the risk of being misunderstood. Headlines, photos, and soundbites taken out of context can easily escalate the conflict.”
“Although sharing publicly might feel empowering, it often hardens positions instead of helping resolve them,” she warned.
During the BBC interview, Harry appeared visibly emotional, even tearful, as he spoke about his court defeat, calling it a “classic establishment stitch-up.” He also revealed that his father, King Charles, refuses to speak with him, and admitted uncertainty about how much time his father has left.
In response, Buckingham Palace issued a firm statement, saying: “All these matters have been thoroughly and repeatedly examined by the courts, and the conclusion has remained the same each time.”
