In a candid new interview with the BBC, Prince Harry made several explosive remarks about his current relationship with the Royal Family and the UK’s security decisions regarding him and his family.
Speaking from Santa Barbara, California, the Duke of Sussex addressed the Court of Appeal’s recent decision to reject his legal challenge over the denial of police protection when visiting the UK. The 40-year-old royal, who stepped back from official duties in 2020, also opened up about his strained connection with King Charles and his hopes for reconciliation.
No Communication with King Charles
Prince Harry revealed that he is no longer in contact with his father, King Charles. He claimed that his father holds significant influence over security matters and could have played a key role in resolving the issue.
“There is a lot of control and ability in my father’s hands,” he told the BBC, suggesting that the situation could have been resolved had his father stepped aside and allowed security experts to act independently.
He further stated that King Charles “won’t speak” to him and that their communication has completely broken down due to the ongoing legal and security dispute.
Desire for Family Reconciliation
Despite the distance and disagreements, Harry expressed a strong desire to mend ties with his family. He acknowledged the rift caused by his actions, including publishing his memoir, but emphasized the importance of moving forward.
“Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me,” he said. “But I would love reconciliation. There’s no point in continuing to fight.”
Unlikely Return to the UK with Meghan and Children
Harry also stated it is highly unlikely that he will bring his wife, Meghan Markle, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, back to the UK anytime soon.
He described the situation as deeply unfortunate, saying, “I think it’s really quite sad that I won’t be able to show my children my homeland.”
Security Allegedly Reduced to Pressure Return
The prince claimed that his official security was intentionally withdrawn in 2020 in an attempt to pressure him and Meghan into resuming royal duties. “They hoped the risk would force us to come back,” he said, questioning whether their safety was ever truly prioritized.
Royal Security Used as a Tool of Control
Harry concluded by criticizing how security protocols are used within the monarchy, stating they serve as a method to “control” and “imprison” royals. He argued that the system can limit personal freedom, preventing family members from living independent lives.
