Princess Kate and Prince William have chosen a more modest accommodation for their upcoming trip to Scotland, turning down the offer to stay at a luxury hotel.
Instead, they will spend their time at a self-catered cottage as they celebrate their anniversary in the country where their love story first began.
The royal couple’s visit, planned for April 29 and 30, will take them to the scenic Scottish islands, a place full of memories from their early relationship. Kate and William famously met as students at the University of St Andrews in the early 2000s, where their bond first formed.
This week, Kensington Palace confirmed the details of the trip, noting that it will center around celebrating and connecting with rural communities across the Scottish Highlands, with a particular focus on the Isles of Mull and Iona.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, now parents to three children—Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, who celebrates his seventh birthday today—married at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011.
The couple will start their visit in the charming town of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.
There, they are scheduled to tour an artisan market located in Aros Hall, a key community space, and meet several local artists and craftspeople to learn more about their work and contributions to the community.
On the second day, Kate and William will travel to the Isle of Iona, where they will meet with rangers from the Mull and Iona Ranger Service, highlighting their ongoing commitment to environmental conservation and community engagement.
Last year, the couple marked their 13th wedding anniversary away from the public eye, following Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis, which she revealed just a few weeks prior in March 2024. At that time, she shared that she had been undergoing chemotherapy treatment.
In a positive update shared in September, Princess Kate announced she was in remission and emphasized that her focus remains firmly on continuing her recovery.
This anniversary trip to Scotland, a place so special to their relationship’s beginnings, will surely offer them a meaningful and private moment of reflection after a challenging year.
