It was a bustling Monday evening when Libby entered the café, ordered a standard coffee, and took a seat overlooking New York City’s busy streets.

With the long meetings and projects with tight deadlines, she hoped to find some time to unwind before heading home to her yoga meditation and more work before bed.

Libby set down her iPad, sipped some hot coffee, and looked about. She took a horrible look at the baby on the table next to her, who had apple puree in his mouth.

Libby hated babies. She loathed their crankiness and demand for affection. However, it appeared that the infant she described as filthy adored her.

As Libby turned away, the baby started crying, and his tears streamed down his face like a river.

Libby turned to look at the table a few seconds later and noticed that the baby’s father was still on the phone, which annoyed her.

“Excuse me, sir!” she called out to the man from her table. “Ask your baby to be quiet! He’s crying like he won’t see another day!”

The dad turned back and apologized before continuing the conversation while rocking his baby. Libby became enraged when the baby continued to wail, and she called the waitress.

“Please move them to another table where I won’t be able to hear that obstinate baby’s cries! Or simply kick them out! Do anything; just get them out of my sight!”

The waitress approached the man’s table and spoke to him, and Libby watched the man hang up the phone.

“Well, if she has a problem, she should be the one to move,” Libby overheard the man saying. “It’s not even my fault, but I apologize for the inconvenience.”

Libby stepped up to the man’s table and told him to leave. That’s when the screaming toddler splashed apple puree over Libby’s clothes, irritating her even more.

Libby never returned to the café, and she hoped to never run across that man and his child again.

After a year, Libby met a lovely man at work.

He fell for her initially, but she fell harder, and she soon discovered she was pregnant with his child.

When her baby bump became visible, Libby informed her parents about her pregnancy, but the older couple was not pleased.

Libby was sh0cked. Because Libby was persistent on marrying Trevor, both of them were kicked out of the company—they worked for her father’s company—and Libby’s parents excluded her from the will.

Months later, when God’s little gift entered Libby and Trevor’s lives, they determined to show her all their love, despite their problems. Trevor started working two jobs, and Libby also started seeking work.

She was called in for an interview at an editorial company one day, and she had to bring baby Eve along.

“I’m afraid you won’t be able to carry her inside,” the lady outside the interview room told her as her name was called.

“I’m sorry,” Libby said. “If I leave her alone, she’ll be a nuisance to others. Please, understand.”

Libby walked inside the room, completely oblivious to what awaited her. She was taken aback when she saw the interviewer’s face. He was the same man she’d treated rudely months before.

Eve began crying. She just wouldn’t quit.

Libby felt humiliated.

“May I hold her for a moment? I think I’ll be able to quiet her.”

“I love babies,” said the man. “I’m Jonathan, by the way. Besides being the company director, I’m a single dad to my little baby boy.”

Jonathan interviewed Libby and hired her. He also permitted Libby to bring Eve to work as long as it did not interfere with her duties.

Libby was beyond grateful to Jonathan. She not only got a job that day, but she also realized life was more than simply work. He taught Libby that being human is first and foremost.
